Step Back in Time

Yesterday we went on another adventure. We went to the ancient cities of Nizwa and the ancient village of Misfat Al Abreyyin. The village has been inhabited for over 4,000 years! Not much has changed in these as you will see in the pictures, but that’s what makes these so unique.
Nizwa was our first stop. It was once the capital of Oman. Today they are known their amazing work with silver. The souq (a maket) had many items made from pure silver such as jewelry and daggers. (I actually bought a really cute pair of pure silver earrings that had to be weighed.) The main attraction of this city was the fort. The fort was built 1668 and took 12 years to create. It has since then been restored and turned into a tourist attraction with a museum all about the city. The museum very informative and being at the very top of the fort was pretty exciting.

Our next stop was the 4,000 year old city called Misfat Al Abreyyin. It really did look like a village from the Bible with houses made of mud bricks and donkeys transporting water. Taking a walk through the village was an indescribable experience. It was amazing to see that people still live this way. Thinking about how we, here in America, have all the latest technology and the coolest gadgets, but these people live completely fulfilling lives here makes for great reflection (Stay tuned for my reflection post.)

It was a great. This definitely was a worthwhile experience to see the beautiful city and village frozen in time. Once again I highly recommend this place and would add this to the list of places you need to visit.
