Passports
orginally published: January 29, 2018
One of the most important things you lead to travel outside of your country is a passport. Passports are the only legal way you are allowed to travel from one country to another. I am an American, so I will be sharing information based on US regulations. I do not know what other countries do, but I am pretty sure they are fairly similar.
Almost anyone can a passport. If you have been convicted of a drug related crime there are a few restrictions when it comes to getting your passport. Check your government’s website to see the full list of restrictions. The passport fee in the US for an adult is $195 total. Renewals, lost passports, and child passports have a different price.
The best place to get your passport is at a post office. You should always call before some places accept walk ins and some places only take by appointment. The worst thing would be to show up at an appointment only place and then have to make an appointment. If you need your passport rushed visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/apply-renew-passport/hurry.html. This will obviously cost more money and you need to have a legitimate reason. Once there you will need a list of documents it can vary from country to country, but in the US you need 5 items as an adult for your first time receiving a passport.
Items needed:
The application
Proof of citizenship (a birth certificate)
Government issued photo ID (a drivers license)
Color passport photo (you can get them taken at Rite Aid or Walgreens)
The fee (it has to be either check or money order)
I would also call ahead and just double check everything at your location.
I fully believe everyone should have a passport. It’s great if you get one as kid. Traveling outside of your country whether for business, pleasure, or school is an invaluable experience. It opens your mind to see things differently. You can’t be ignorant and a world traveler.
